چکیده

JLhere are four recognized types of cell involved in color vision. Receptors absorb light over a restricted region of the visible spectrum, the wavelength of greatest sensitivity being different for different receptors, but the type of response (hyperpolarization) being the same for all wavelengths in all vertebrate receptors. Beyond the receptors, one finds opponent color cells which give one sign of response (depolarization or ON response) for some wavelengths and the opposite sign of response (hyperpolarization or OFF response) for other wavelengths. Some of these are single color opponent cells, where the response to a particular wavelength does not vary from one part of the receptive field to another, and some are double

Spatial and chromatic interactions in the lateral geniculate body of the rhesus monkey.

THE RECEPTORS AND NERVE CELLS that make up the visual pathway must convey and interpret information on both the form and the color of retinal images. In higher mammals little is known about the degree to which nerve cells are specialized for handling these types of information. In a visual stimulus the importance of spatial attributes, and especially of dark-light contours, first became obvious...

Myocardial Infarction in a Rhesus Monkey

Myocardial necrosis can be result from a number of causes including nutritional deficiencies, chemical and plant toxins, ischemia and metabolic disorder. The outcome of myocardial necrosis varies depending on the extent of the damage (Donald 2001, Jubb 1993, Radostits 1994, Vanvaleet 1986). Myocardial infarction without demonstrable of atherosclerosis were reported in a rhesus macaque (Gonder 1...

Spatial properties of goldfish ganglion cells

We systematically classified goldfish ganglion cells according to their spatial summation properties using the same techniques and criteria used in cat and monkey research. Results show that goldfish ganglion cells can be classified as X-, Y-, or W-like based on their responses to contrast-reversal gratings. Like cat X cells, goldfish X-like cells display linear spatial summation. Goldfish Y-li...

Luminance coding of briefly presented stimuli in area 17 of the rhesus monkey.

1. Single cells in area 17 of the alert rhesus monkey were classified according to their sensitivity to variations in stimulus orientation, color, and direction of movement. The sensitivity of the cells to stimulus luminance was then tested using moving bars and large stationary spots presented for 500 ms. The luminance of the stimulus was varied over trials; background luminance was kept const...
